It is very exciting for the company and board to announce that SDT-Bay Area has chosen a new name, Atelier 5. The name represents our efforts to engage audiences more actively and to extend our reach beyond the limits of the stage and to create performance experiences incorporating both performers and audience. Also, Atelier refers to a workshop, a place where artists come together and develop collaborative works.

Atelier 5 passionately believes that we all possess a potential for expressive, poignant movement. As a modern dance company, we strive to foster this potential with events that create a vibrant bond between audience and performer. In performances at schools, in collaborations with other artists, on stage, or at non-traditional dance venues Atelier 5 wants modern dance to engage people in their everyday lives.
